Tipsonusingthesecuritychip

•EnsurethatthesupervisorpasswordhasbeensetinThinkPadSetup.Otherwiseanyonecanchangethe

settingsforthesecuritychip.

•IfyouareusingClientSecuritySolution,handlethesecuritychipbydoingthefollowing:

–Donotclearthesecuritychip.Ifyoudo,thefunctionsassignedtothekeyswillbeerased.

–Donotdisablethesecuritychip.Ifyoudo,ClientSecuritySolutionwillnotwork.

•Ifthesecuritychipisremovedorreplaced,oranewonehasbeenadded,thecomputerwillnotstart.You

willhearfourcyclesoffourbeepseach,oryouwillseeerrormessage0176or0192.

•Ifthesecuritychipisinactiveordisabled,theClearSecurityChipoptionwillnotbedisplayed.

•Whenyouclearthesecuritychip,turnoffyourcomputerandthenturnitonagainafteryousetthe

securitychiptoActive.Otherwise,theClearSecurityChipoptionisnotdisplayed.

Usingthengerprintreader

Dependingonthemodel,yourcomputermighthaveangerprintreader.Fingerprintauthenticationcan

replaceyourpasswords,suchastheWindowspassword,power-onpassword,andharddiskpassword.In

thisway,youcanlogontoyourcomputersimplyandsecurely.

Toenablengerprintauthentication,enrollyourngerprintsrst.Duringtheenrollment,thengerprintsare

associatedwiththeWindowspasswordautomatically.Toassociateyourngerprintswithyourpower-on

passwordandharddiskpassword,manuallycreateaconnection.

Enrollingyourngerprints

Toenrollyourngerprints,dothefollowing:

1.StarttheFingerprintManagerProprogram.ForinstructionsonhowtostarttheFingerprintManagerPro

program,see“Lenovoprograms”onpage14.

2.EntertheWindowspasswordasrequired.

3.Clicktheiconforthengerthatyouwanttoenroll,andconstantlyswipeyourcorrespondingnger

acrossthengerprintreaderuntiltheenrollmentcompletes.Formoreinformation,see“Swipingyour

ngeroverthengerprintreader”onpage54.

4.ClickFinish.Yourngerprintisenrolledsuccessfully.

Note:Itisrecommendedthatyouenrollmorethanonengerprintincaseofanyinjuriestoyourngers.
